Which location do you work out of?
Büro Sobe
What does your company do, and what is your role?
I am the founder of JLC Translations, a boutique translation services company offering Spanish, Portuguese, and English translations.
What do you like best about your job?
Translation requires expertise in the subject matter of the document at hand. Translating a document about wine requires not only dabbling in wine terminology but truly understanding the document, and writing in the target language with the same expertise as the original author. One day I'm researching and channeling my inner expert on the tax code, and the next I'm creatively wording ad copy; no two days are alike.
What is your business motto/philosophy?
Thoughtful translation services; in an industry that has been "on the verge" of automation for a number of years, I'm very passionate about putting out the highest quality product with 100% human translated and reviewed work. It's up to human translators to be sure they are adding value, and not translating robotically. That is something I am happy to do.

Suburban Chicago
What are your favorite Miami hangouts and activities?
I like riding my bike on any road without traffic. My favorite hangout is Lagniappe.
What's one (surprising, interesting, funny, awesome) thing you'd like for Büro members to know about you?
I am a poetry enthusiast. I started a Twitter account for Frank O'Hara, one of my favorite poets (shameless plug: @lunchpoemstweet)
What do you like best about working at Büro?
The community environment! It's great to run into the regulars at the flex seat area or the lounge, and catch up.
What crazy adventure would you want to take?
My adventure bucket list is lengthy, but I would like to take a month-long rafting trip through the Grand Canyon and bring my studies of Russian to the next level by visiting Moscow for a couple of months.
What are your secret survival strategies?
My survival strategy in business is that it's OK to say no. In life, on the other hand, there are few things a long walk or bike ride can't help.
What's your comfort food?
Almost any cheese plate will do.
What movies do you watch, or reference, over and over?
30 Rock; "Live every week like it's Shark Week"
